Requirements

  • A Claude plan (Pro is enough for a first build)
  • Mac or Windows; guide 02 covers both
  • Free tiers of GitHub, Vercel and Supabase
  • One-hour sessions most days for two to four weeks

You have the idea and the budget. You do not have a developer.

An AI builder got you a screen that looks right in an afternoon. Then login broke, a button did nothing, it said “fixed” and nothing changed, and the credits kept burning. The agency quote for the same tool was five figures. So the idea sits there.

Idea to App OS is the process between you and an AI developer. You describe, decide and click. Claude Code writes the code. A workflow plugin keeps it disciplined. Seven guides tell you what to say at every step, including the step where most AI-built apps fail: security, data, payments and going live.

What changes

Week one ends with a one-page spec and a working first screen on a real address. Each session is 60 minutes and one feature. When the AI says “fixed”, you paste the message from guide 04 and make it prove it. Before anyone else uses the app, the 12-step self-test in guide 05 runs, and users can only see their own data.

The three routes

What each route costs, and where it breaks

Cost ranges from Metizsoft and ProjectCostEstimator guides, 2026. Vendor estimates, read as the shape of the market.

RouteMoneyYour hoursWhere it breaks
Agency or freelancer$3,000 to $40,000 by published 2026 rangesFew, mostly meetingsThe second invoice

The playbook

Seven guides, one for each step

Every technical term explained once, in one line. Every step with the exact text to paste.

01

Your idea on one page

Seven questions that turn an idea into a spec an AI can build from, with the exact first prompt.

02

Set up your AI developer

Node, Git, Claude Code, CodeForge and four accounts, step by step on Mac and Windows, with a monthly cost table.

03

Directing the build

The 60-minute session, one feature per session, what to say and what never to say, what done means.

04

When it breaks

Fifteen stuck situations with the exact message to send, the 45-minute rule, the two prompts that roll back to the last working version.

05

The last 20 percent

Login without custom code, users only seeing their own data, secrets out of the code, backups, Stripe in test mode, deploy, the pre-launch self-test.

06

Launch

Ten people first, the three feedback questions, bugs before features, a landing page from one prompt, the one number to watch.

07

Run it without a developer

The monthly 30-minute health check, cost of ownership, the four cases where you hire a human and the brief that gets a good one.

Who this is for, and who it is not for

For you if

  • You have the idea, the budget and the patience for one-hour sessions, and none of the vocabulary.
  • You got to 80 percent in Lovable, Bolt or Replit and are stuck on login, data, payments or deploy.
  • You priced an agency MVP and decided there must be a cheaper way that is still safe.
  • You want to own the tool, not rent a developer every time a button moves.

Not for you if

  • Developers. You already know this; the CodeForge plugin alone is on GitHub.
  • Anyone who wants an app without spending time. Most first builds take two to four weeks of one-hour sessions, and that is an estimate.
  • A regulated first project: medical records, financial accounts, children's data. Build something smaller first.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never written a line of code. Is this really for me?

Yes, that is the only reader the guides were written for. Every technical term gets one line of explanation the first time it appears, every step has the exact text to paste, and the CLAUDE.md template tells the AI you are not a developer and must be spoken to in plain English. What it asks of you is time: one-hour sessions most days for two to four weeks on a first build.

Why Claude Code instead of Lovable or Bolt?

Those builders are fast for the first 80 percent and get expensive at the last 20: login, data rules, payments, deploy. Claude Code with the CodeForge plugin forces questions before code, a written plan you approve, small tested steps and a verification pass before anything is called done. Guide 02 sets it up in about 90 minutes.

Is AI-written code safe to put in front of customers?

Not by default. A 2026 Escape.tech scan of more than 1,400 production apps built with AI builders found security issues in 65 percent and at least one critical issue in 58 percent. Guide 05 is a checklist against exactly those failures, with the prompt for each item and a two-account test you run yourself. The Founder edition adds a human written review before launch. None of it is a certification.

What do Pro and Founder add, and are there calls?

No calls. Pro adds an Idea Review: email your one-page spec, get a written build plan within three business days with the build order, the parts that will hurt, the stack decision and your first five prompts. Founder adds a Pre-Launch Review of the deployed app (security, data, payments, deploy, a launch verdict) and 30 days of email questions. Founder is limited to five buyers a month.

What will it cost me per month to run the app?

Guide 02 has the table with ranges. A realistic first month is in the tens of dollars if you use the free tiers of GitHub, Vercel and Supabase and a Claude Pro plan. Prices change, so the guide tells you to check each pricing page, and guide 07 covers the ongoing cost of ownership.

When should I hire a real developer instead?

Guide 07 names four triggers: more than about 500 daily users, a custom login flow, payment logic beyond Stripe Checkout, or a compliance requirement. For those it includes a developer brief template that gets you a good contractor without handing over the keys.

One-Time Purchase

Less than one hour of an agency build

Published 2026 guides put a freelancer-built MVP between $3,000 and $15,000. Standard costs less than one hour of that, and you keep the process for the next idea.
